Huge As Mean Green Salad

We already know what you're thinking. A salad.. Really? Really! This isn't your ordinary salad. This salad is all about the dressing! Full of goodness to help reduce bloat and inflammation and to also kickstart any sluggish digestion that you might be experiencing. While particularly useful after the festive season, these simple ingredients can be used year round to add a nutiritonal boost to any meal!

Our salad was honestly quite basic and included the following:

  • 1/2 a head of lettuce
  • 2 carrots, shredded
  • 1 medium cucumber, chopped
  • 1 red capsicum
  • 1/2 an avocado
  • Home pickled beetroot (recipe coming soon!)

All we did was chop and place into a giant bowl. Mix well and set aside. Now for the dressing goodness.

  • Grated ginger
  • Grated turmeric 
  • A crack of black pepper
  • Sprinkle of cumin
  • Hot chilli flakes
  • 2 tablespoons Braggs apple cider vinegar
  • Juice of 1 lemon
  • Fresh dill
  • Fresh thyme
  • Fresh basil

Grate ginger and turmeric into a bowl. We like a decent amount, but they are quite powerful flavours, so start slowly! Next add in apple cider vinegar along with lemon juice and mix to combine. Roughly chop dill, thyme and basil and add to lemon mix. Sprinkle in dry herbs and spices and mix until nice and golden with no lump. Pour over salad and enjoy.

TURMERIC

Curcumin principal curcuminoid found in turmeric. Curcumin has shown strong anti- inflammatory and improve exercise induced muscle damage and is potent even at small culinary doses. Recent research found turmeric to be an effective treatment for IBS! It also enhances the livers ability to detoxify. Can't complain about that!

BLACK PEPPER

Black pepper (Piper nigrum) stimulates the taste buds in such a way that an alert is sent to the stomach to increase hydrochloric acid secretion

GINGER

Historically, ginger has a long tradition of being very effective in alleviating symptoms of gastrointestinal distress
Numerous studies have shown that curcumin (the principal curcumoid found in turmeric) has strong anti inflammatory properties and improves exercise induced muscle damage.

It is also a potent anti bacterial and anti viral and it is delicious! Win win!
